Meet the team

Marieke Leegwater works for Solidaridad, but is currently managing the Sustainable Palm Oil Choice Initiative. Within SPOC Marieke is responsible for developing and implementing its strategy and action plan. Throughout the last 10 years working for Solidaridad among others with oil palm farmers, Marieke repeatedly met farmers who were acting as true custodians of the land. However, a clear signal they were giving in discussions about sustainable practices is that they need support for their efforts. And this is were the SPOC initiative comes into play.

The SPOC initiative unites voices by NGOs and industry who are convinced we can build sustainable palm oil value chains provided we collaborate and support each other. Marieke is honored to lead the SPOC initiative in close collaboration with partners of the Steering Board and supported by the Advisory Team including Conservation International, WWF, Ferrero, Sime Darby and Wilmar.
